Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit my tree in person?

Yes, you can. In fact, we encourage you to visit La Mérica trail, where your tree is located, if you travel to La Gomera. Seeing your tree in person completely changes the experience.

Will I receive an invoice or donation receipt?

Yes. After your contribution, you’ll receive a donation receipt within a few days. It’s proof of your support and can be kept for your records.

Can I gift a tree to someone else?

Yes – and it’s one of the most meaningful gifts you can give. You can make the donation in someone’s name and send them the tracking code as a surprise. A gift with roots.

What species of trees are planted?

We plant native species such as Sabina, Palo Blanco, Barbusano, Acebiño, Heath, and Faya. All are carefully chosen for their ecological value and natural adaptation to La Gomera’s environment.

Where exactly are the trees located?

The trees are planted in Valle Gran Rey, within the Valle Gran Rey Rural Park, along a trail that connects Arure and La Calera across the cliffs of La Mérica. It’s a symbolic and much-loved spot.

What happens if I stop donating? Do I lose my participation?

Yes. As this is a collective participation project, if you stop donating you lose your link to the tree. However, your previous contribution will have already left a positive mark.

When are the trees planted?

Planting takes place during the rainy season, between October and February – the ideal time for trees to grow strong and healthy.

How much COâ‚‚ does my tree offset?

It’s not just about the CO₂ the tree absorbs – it’s about the ecosystem it helps create. Trees generate microclimates and attract other species, so their impact multiplies over time.

Can I make a larger donation?

Yes, you can contribute more, leave a legacy, and share your values through the sponsorship section.

How is the tree maintained?

Each tree is cared for by a team of local experts and watered by the Volunteer Firefighters of Valle Gran Rey. They monitor its growth and ensure its survival.

Is there a certificate of participation?

Yes. You’ll receive a unique tracking code identifying your participation, along with updates on its impact.

Does my participation grant any legal or ownership rights?

You are part of the project as a donor, not as the owner of the tree or the land.

Is the donation tax-deductible?

Not at the moment. Although we’re working towards this in the future, donations currently don’t qualify for tax deductions.

Who is behind the project?

This project is led by ATUSOS La Gomera, a local association committed to sustainability and responsible tourism on the island.

What makes this project different from other reforestation initiatives?

Here, we offset the footprint right where it’s created – in the tourist destination itself. It’s not just planting trees; it’s giving back to the land what tourism takes away.

Can I follow my tree’s growth with photos or updates?

Yes. You’ll periodically receive news, photos and updates about your tree and the progress of the project on the island.
